Members and chapter representatives from across the United States convened in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 11, 2024, for the annual general assembly meeting of the Tigray
Development Association in North America (TDANA). The assembly, spanning various chapters including Bay Area-California, Seattle, Dallas, DMV, Nashville, Minnesota, Chicago, Carolina, Denver, New York/Tri State, Las Vegas and Boston, focused on critical discussions and decisions, including the approval of annual and financial reports, bylaw amendments and the election of a new board of directors.
The meeting commenced with a comprehensive review of TDANA's progress and financial performance in 2023/2024, presented by the executive board of directors. Emphasis was placed on the challenges overcome in revitalizing chapters nationwide, successful project implementations, and community engagement achievements. Following deliberations, the assembly unanimously approved both the executive and financial reports.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing amendments to TDANA's bylaws. Topics included membership fees, terms for board members and officers, the role of the advisory council, and minor revisions. After thorough debate, the assembly decided to include honorary membership and set an annual membership fee of $120 per member. The term for board members was extended from two to three years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms, totaling six years. Additionally, the assembly approved placing the investment team under the advisory council's purview.
Elections for the new board of directors were a highlight of the assembly. A three-member election committee was appointed, which oversaw the nomination and voting process. Nominees from various chapters were considered, resulting in the election of 15 board members. Among them, several incumbents were re-elected for their final term, while new members were welcomed to serve a first term.
The assembly also featured presentations from esteemed guests, including Prof. Tilahun Beyene and Mr. Yebegashet Alemayehu from TDANA's advisory council, and Dr. Solmon Abraham, representing the TELU Project—an educational initiative supported by TDANA and Tegaru professionals.
With robust participation and decisive outcomes, the TDANA general assembly meeting concluded on July 11, 2024, affirming a strong mandate for the organization's leadership and strategic direction in the coming years.
