TDA North America and Mrs. Elizabeth Mengistu's Family: Transforming Education in Tigray

Washington DC, April 14, 2025 - TDA North America and Mrs. Elizabeth Mengistu's Family: Transforming Education in Tigray.

Thanks to the remarkable generosity of Mr. Petros and Mrs. Elizabeth Mengistu's family, and the steadfast support of TDA North America through the gift-matching program, the Adikini School in Tigray has been successfully rebuilt. This transformative project encompassed the construction of a two-block school housing eight classrooms, fully furnished with desks, chairs, learning materials, and books.

On behalf of the people of Tigray, including the residents of Bizet and surrounding areas, TDA North America extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Elizabeth Mengistu's family. Their enduring commitment to supporting the Tigray cause over the years has made a significant impact. With a generous total donation exceeding 7.5 million birr, the family enabled the school’s completion of 6.6 million birr. While the project surpassed its initial budget of 1.5 million birr, TDA North America celebrates the family's willingness to make this extra investment, which has proven invaluable.

Additionally, the family's generosity has expanded to include support for local artisans, fostering life-changing opportunities and brighter futures for many individuals in the region.

Attached are photos capturing the inspiring results of these efforts.
